The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) has authorized the company Electronoroeste to develop electricity generation at the "Paita Thermal Power Plant" with an installed capacity of 16 megawatts (MW).

Through Ministerial Resolution No. 061-2020-MINEM/DM, published this Wednesday in El Peruano, the regional company must build the works described in its concession application according to the work execution schedule submitted to the Minem.

On January 10 of this year, the firm had requested that the respective authorization be granted to ensure the timely supply of electricity.

Electronoroeste must operate the thermal power plant in compliance with the required technical and safety standards, preserving the environment and safeguarding the Cultural Heritage of the Nation.

It is worth recalling that the Paita-Sullana Electric System was declared to be in a situation of serious deficiency on September 27, 2019, through Ministerial Resolution No. 277-2019-MINEM/DM, due to a lack of production and transportation capacity.

In this context, the Executive Branch designated Electronoroeste to implement the necessary temporary measures to overcome the situation of serious deficiency in the electricity service.
